Sylvester Ahola and Phil Wall

Hooley and Wall 1

Trumpeter Sylvester Ahola (left) and pianist Phil Wall stand by a Handley Page Hamilton in June 1926. Both were members of Paul Specht’s Orchestra and, at the end of the band's engagement at the Royal Palace Hotel, they arranged a flight-hopping trip across Europe - London-Rotterdam-Amsterdam-Brussels-Paris-Basel-Zurich. Quite an adventure just 7 years after Alcock & Brown had flown the Atlantic! They rejoined the rest of the band at Cherbourg and sailed for New York on the Aquitania on 26 June 1926.
