Ada Jones

A rather coquettish pose from pioneer recording artist Ada Jones (1783-1922) “At the Recording Laboratory” according to the inscription on the reverse. Ada Jones was born in England but emigrated to the USA with her family at the age of 6. Her voice was ideally suited to the limited range of early recording equipment and her comic vocals, often made in conjunction with Len Spencer and, later, Billy Murray, were hugely popular in the pre-1917 period.
